Just before Christmas we learnt that our application for variation on the previously granted planning permission had been granted. In addition we received notification that we have fulfilled the requisite clauses of the planning permission pertaining to tree protection and energy production. Finally!!!
So, having had a slightly frustrating and unenthusiastic relationship with the architect who drew up the plans we have decided to move on. On Monday we met with Kevin and Craig from Utopia Design whom we met while Mike was cycling from Bristol to Newcastle last summer. We had some interesting discussions regarding a garage/outbuilding in which to house a wood chip boiler and associated pump, and on which to mount some solar panels. Additionally we discussed applying for a dormer in the north facing roof which might enable us to have an upstairs bathroom.
Step one is to clarify with North Somerset Council whether we can in fact apply for further planning changes. This we have done and are awaiting a response…….patience is required!
At the weekend Mike met with barn neighbours to talk over the possibility of some additional gate accesses from Fry’s Lane. Everyone is happy with our proposal to add a gateway under the large beech tree in the top orchard which will retain the equestrian right of way for The Post House, and enable us to create a driveway to approach the barn from the south.
It finally feels as though we are making some progress, and although we still have much to do and achieve, I am starting to feel that spending next Christmas there is more than just a possibility.
